- All the WR, right now are really expensive, they're waiting for the draft and that's smart.
- Rosenfells is a good signing, to start. He is a very capable, if unspectacular, QB. It looks like either the Vikes are thoroughly committed to Jackson, or are going to draft a QB early. Minnesota was 13th in points allowed in '08, and 6th in yards allowed. They are still good. The only real upgrade they need to make is at S, only because Darren Sharper is getting long in the tooth. WR is a slight concern. They may not want to commit as much money this year, but it doesn't mean they can't get quality players. The draft is always the best place to get more bang for your buck. Free agency can be more of a gamble than the draft, and most mistakes are very costly ones. Just stay patient... the season hasn't even really started yet.
- They did a lot last season.... sometimes you just have to draft. They may be looking to move up on draft day and get the QB not taken early -- probably Sanchez Draft is heavy with Centers... they would not have let Birk go if they weren't certain they will have a good center fall into their laps in the second or third round. If they dont move upfor the QB, they will have an opportunity to draft a WR in the 1st.... Harvin, Heyward-Bey, Britt. I like Heyward-Bey... Tall, fast, more polished route runner. I thought Sidney Rice would turn into a powerhouse at WR. I guess his route running and hands are questionable. You drafted an athletically gifted safety in the 1st last year -- I bet he pans out this year for you. You can bet they will pick up a FS in the later rounds of the draft. Lots of late round FS that become starters and contributers. Cedric Griffin is a talented CB, but, he may be a better fit at safety. His body size and tackling are impressive for a DB, but his interceptions are not as often as they should be. He has a nose for the ball and has caused more than his share of forced fumbles, if the Vikings drafta DB in the 2nd as a starter he may be a better fit at FS with Johnson at SS.
- Another Vikes fan here. I think we'll be ok. We'll be fine with Berrian and Rice at WR, but it wouldn't hurt to add another WR. Darren Sharper is getting up there in age and appears to have lost a step or two this last season, so it's not a terrible loss there. Madieu Williams and Tyrell Johnson are both solid safeties. The one that hurts the most is letting Birk walk. We go from a Pro-Bowl caliber C to a ? At CB we've got Winfield and Griffin (who we just signed to an extension). I also think Rosenfels is an improvement on Gus (can't throw) and Tavaris. It'll be interesting to see which way we go in the draft. BTW, I can't wait for the day Childress gets the boot.
- I agree, they should go after Boldin.
- A WR, who would throw to him. I agree with your assessment of childress has to go but you missed out on Culter and he went to your division so you are no longer the top dog. Tighten up your secondary and hope slug matures into a average QB.
- As a Vikings fan myself, I pondering the same. Usually they light it up every single year. I mean we lost Birk to the Ravens and thats the most devastating loss. Cornerback could use some remodeling. I see McCauley replacing Antoine soon. He a beast but getting up in years. Cedric Griffin can hold his own and recently recieved a lengthy contract extension. This draft is dedicated to OL and possibly Corner and QB. Im not a big fan of Tavarous but he has some competition. Booty, Rosenfels and himself. Not much of a compettion but we will see how it goes. I see ourselves getting the same record again.
- I can't figure out the Vikings either. Do something! Sage Rosenfels. Gee. Thanks. gmafb.
- look, i'm going to say this as politely as possible, but if some of these people were true Viking fans, wouldn't they know when one of their star players were released? Matt Birk....gone. Darren Sharper....gone. however, they did sign QB Sage Rosenfels, who is a quality backup to have, and that's important in this league. i think the one issue that we all don't hear about is the salary cap. remember, Jared Allen was the highest paid defensive player in the NFL last season. that covers much of your cap space, and greatly reduces your chances at getting a star QB.
- For one, the biggest need is at QB. I'm going to say without hesitating that Josh Freeman is one the Vikings draft board-and real high. There are plenty of WRs in this draft, and don't forget that you have Rice sitting in the wings at WR. He has all the potential in the world to develop into a great no.2; just find him a QB that can throw it to the guy.
