American FOOTball?? Soo this is my question, i'm not that familiar with the sport american football, having seen it only in the 100 or so teen movies that have football teams etc. But from what I've seen, there isn't allot of foot action beside running, and the occasional kick, so why did they call it FOOTball anyway?? the most important actions are done with the hand, aren't they?? Can somebody please explain??
What's the difference between American Football and Canadian Football? The two games look very alike to me and I am presuming there are some differences. Otherwise why bother to call them different names. Also, some of the American players wear funny looking kind of apron things and I have no idea what these are for. I used to play rugby myself and to some people its just as hard to figure out as American/Canadian football. Thanks for the info.
Is there a gridiron or american football club in Egypt? If anyone knows the adress of an american football club in Egypt, then please inform me. How do the fans of American Football like that it is being outsourced to other countries.? We are outsourcing American Football to other countries so a certain few can make more money.Think of all the money that will be lost by outsourcing American football to other countries.Hotels, grocery stores stadium venders, public transit, gas stations, restrauants.I can keep going on.Also, how many jobs will be lost to the outsourcing to other countries. That's money out of the workers pockets who need to pay bills and feed their families.Look at who is losing more from this deal and who is gaining at the cost of the people who are losing.
What position in American Football requires the most weight? We're putting together concept sports team rosters for my school, and we need some help. We've decided to try for American Football (we're from England) and need someone to break down what each position requires in terms of size. Example: "this position" requires the person to be tall and fast. "and that position" requires a broad, heavy bloke. Thanks in advance. What about defence?
How many All-American football players are there for a position? So with all-american football players, is there like 3 or 4 all american linebackers, like 5 all american recievers, 1 kicker, 1 quarterback, 2 or 3 running backs, ect? how many all american players are there for positions like quarterback, punter, and kicker?
How did Britons react to seeing all the American football lines on the Wembley pitch? Those lines transformed it into a "field," Americans would say. FYI I'm a Chicagoan. I saw the light years ago, and now follow football/soccer. I love the grassy expanse with the few lines the game requires. And it's a travesty when it's played in America on American football fields with all those lines five yards apart. (And rough when it's in humongous stadiums ... but we're building more and more football/soccer-specific ones.) I retracted my "empty stands" comment. Sorry.
Who thinks it a bad ideal to play American Football in another country? Roger Goodell wants to expand American Football to other countries to bring in more revenue for the NFL.The funny thing is,is that he has not expanded the market to one of the biggest markets in the US,that is Los Angeles California. This is an American game.If people want to see American Football they can travel here and all NFL stadiums should have at least a 100,000 seats minium. That will bring in more revenue.
How come I never see a halfback in (american) football throw the ball out of bounds? In American football, if the runner is behind the line of scrimmage, he can still throw the ball. Too many times have I seen a running play where the halfback has absolutely no chance to get past the line of scrimmage, so why don't they throw the ball out of bounds? Is there a rule outlawing this? Thanks. Well a foward pass would be illegal but couldn't they throw it behind them and still out of bounds?
What position should I play in American football? Hi I live in England and I am going to play youth football over the summer. I am 17 and play rugby as a flanker or hooker. I am 5 foot 10, 85 kg (188 pounds) and run the 40 yard dash time in 4.9 (slow I know!) However I am strong and can bench 115 kg, and squat 150 kg. So my question is, what position would suit me In American football!
How do i learn about american football? I would like to start learning how to play american football. Since my family moved from Austria, i dont know how the sport is played. is there some website or book or something that i could learn at least the basics of the game.
How Do You Throw An American Football Accurately, Effectively And Long Distances? If you haven't guessed already i'm a Brit with very little experience in American Football as well as there being no American Football teams for miles from where I am, so i'm kinda stuck on improving. From playing with my bros and friends my favourite position is Quarterback so i need to throw the ball effectively, accurately, and far, so... any tips?
Can I watch american football games in the UK? I am a Baltimore Ravens fan, and I am going to London for the month of January. Is there any television station in the UK that broadcasts american football games, especially now that the NFL is in playoff season?
How often do rugby players have head injuries compared to american football players? I am not asking this to get in a big argument about which sport is tougher. As an American who plays American football, I respect rugby as a sport, as you truly have to have a pair to go full contact with no pads. I was just wondering how often rugby players have head injuries since unlike football they don't have a helmet to absorb the hit as much? Again this not for arguing, it is just an honest question looking for an unbiased answer.
Does American football have a significant fan base outside of the US? Being American, I love our football, but I understand it doesn't have the same enthusiasm worldwide, especially compared to soccer. Is there any other country where people are interested in it? I figured it would be fairly popular in Canada, since Canada is right to the north of us, I'd figure the Buffalo Bills would have a few fans in Toronto, since its less than a hundred miles away.
What posistion should I play in American football? Hi I live in England and I am going to play youth football over the summer. I am 17 and play rugby as a flanker or hooker. I am 5 foot 10, 85 kg (188 pounds) and run the 40 yard dash time in 4.9 (slow I know!) However I am strong and can bench 115 kg, and squat 150 kg. What Position Would Be Best For Me For American Football ? What would be the best position for me to play in american football? Why is American football more popular than soccer in America? After all, soccer is a universal sport, and it's a lot more convenient to play (no helmets or tight shorts-- haha-- needed and all you truly need is a ball, for example). Also, why do you think American football never caught on in other countries? It certainly caught on in the US.
How is "American football" different from rugby? I thought that the game "rugby" to the rest of the world is "football" to America, but in some places I see that there is some sort of difference. People say that "american football" is rugby with armor. Can someone explain? And does anyone know when american football was originated?

How many nations entered the most recent American football world cup? I've asked before but I think the question was thought to be sarcastic. There is a world cup of American Football and, not surprisingly the United States are the current world champions, having defeated Japan in the final. I am genuinely interested in knowing how many nations participated in the qualifying tournament. All I know is that the final was played in Kawasaki, Japan on July 15th 2007 and that the USA won 23-20
What is the strategy and appeal of American Football? I am English and enjoy rugby and cricket. I can fully appreciate that you need to know the rules and strategy to enjoy those games. However, when I watch American Football, the tactics seem so one dimensional. Ball is thrown back, thrown to a runner and he goes as far as he can. Don't get me wrong, I know it must be a great sport otherwise people wouldn't follow it. BUT, I would like to know the main reasons why people follow it, what am I missing in terms of the game plays.
How many rules does American football have? I just read in the FIFA ("soccer") rules book that there are only 17 rules/laws in that game and I was wondering how many rules there were in American Football. Can anyone tell me ?
In American Football, what exactly is holding foul and false start foul, and how are they committed? Im new to American football, and I was watching a game between Oklahoma and another college. When the players were set, the referee suddenly stopped the game and called for a false start foul on the offensive. I wish to know how was the foul commited. And also the holding foul, it was called when a defensive player tackled an offensive player. It looked like a normal tackle to me, but it was holding. So i wanna know what exactly is holding foul. Thank You
Where can an American Football Jacket like high school jocks usually wear? I am not sure what they are or even if they are American Football jackets but in the movies and TV, the American Football players usually wear them. They are the ones that Finn Hudson wears in GLEE and Michael Jackson wears in the Thriller video. As many sites as you know would be really helpful. Thanks in advance. And correct me if I am wrong with them being American Football jackets. Thanks.
How do you play American football? I'm from Ireland and we have our own sports like hurling and gaelic football and I was wondering how do you play american football? I have no idea what touchdowns are and how you play the game in general so could some american people tell me how it works?
Where did American football get its name? I know that soccer (UK football) is a much, much older game then American football. I am wondering why both Americans and Europeans lay claim to the word "football"- and for different games! (Not to mention, American football has a lot less to do with feet than European football). Thanks!
How do I get into american football in the UK? I'm 17 years old and very interested in american football. I'd love nothing more than to play but i live in the UK and havn't been able to find a club near me. I live in somerset in the south west, and if anyone had any suggestions or ideas on how to find a club or get noticed please let me know! Cheers.
Who are the good american football players nowadays? I'm really a basketball fan and sadly, i don't know much about american football. I wanna know at least the good players though.. like.. if you could give player parallelisms, who would be american football's Lebron James (young forward who's an unstoppable freak of nature), Kobe Bryant (guard who seems he can do it all), Shaquille O'neal (BIG guy; nothing but power), and Michael Jordan (legendary)? It wouldn't hurt to also cite the good teams! or other players worth mentioning. thanks!
Is the linebacker position in American football right for me? Ive just turned 16 and i live in england but im soon to be moving back to the states and i wanted to give american football a try. Im almost 6ft2, im 200 pounds, ive been playing rugby since i was 8 and i can sprint the 100 metres in just under 13 seconds. If not could ya tell me what positions you might think would be better?
Why do Americans think that American football is a very manly sport? They're all wearing pads, helmets, and other such protective gear. In rugby, which American football came from, they don't wearing any pads or helmets ... and they tackle each other hard just like in American football. I'd say that's more of a manly sport than American football.
Where can I buy an American football in Beijing? NFL is running ads on the subway, *trying* to get an exhibition game here, and organizing flag football leagues in an apparent attempt to get Chinese people interested (wanting to cash in on the NBA's immense popularity), but shouldn't putting a ball in the hands of the people be step 1? Virtually all American footballs are MADE in China, so where can I buy one in Beijing before they put it on the boat?
What American Football position shall i be? I am 15, 5"11, 187.6 pounds (13.4 stone) and play american football in england (14-17 year olds). I like runningback as i have strong legs but i am not very fast (which i want to work on). How can i improve my speed?
Why is Black considered the best talent in American Football? They made this same argument about Basketball until European teams like Greece and then Spain beat them multiple times. The thing about American Football is that they havent really tried playing against a European counterpart yet and i think when they do they will end up just like the Basketball dream team, beaten. I just dont understand all this propaganda in the States concerning how better Blacks are at sports as its complete trash talk. Same with when former Russian republic boxers started coming to the states a few years back and now they hold all four heavyweight belts and out of the 20 belts on the whole Europeans hold 17 of them. I just wished you Americans would stop believing the hype around Blacks when everything else suggests otherwise. Sure you do have some good Black American Football players but they arent that good its called reverse discrimination and you should realise that sad fact.
Where can I watch American Football in Bournemouth England? I am going to Bournemouth England in January and my boyfriend does not want to miss his favorite team in the playoffs. Does anyone know where in Bournemouth he could watch American football? Also, do any TV channels in England broadcast American football, and if so, what channels are they? Thanks!

Where can I buy an American football in Australia? I know you can get footballs off eBay and other online stores but I'd prefer to buy them in person because the international shipping cost and the currency difference makes it too expensive. Or unless you know a site that has good prices and good quality footballs .. Does anyone know a store in Australia where I can buy a good quality American football? Preferably in Sydney.
Can anyone explain the basics of American Football to me? I'm nearly 16 years old and english, and so is my long-term boyfriend (almost 17 years old), but he's in a youth american football team (Tamworth Phoenix Youth), and he's got a game coming up. It's an away game, and he's invited me along. He plays as a quarterback. Could anyone explain to me the basics of american football so I know whats going on when he's playing, and what a quarterback has to do?
Are they televising the american football world cup on any channels? I have been wanting to see some of these games that have been going on in what is called the american football world cup which feature teams from diferent countries which players are actually from, supposedly Japan is the best team for the past couple of years and I know there is finally a USA team competing and I would like to see that, anyone know if they are showing this on tv and when? That's ashame headhunta53 you would think football fans would be all over this, it would be even more shameful if USA lost.
Why do people compare Rugby and American football? I don't get it? We bash people for liking soccer than you say we're pussies for wearing pads in football..? You do realize that the way people hit in rugby is completely different than American football hitting? People died frequently in American football, so it became law to pad up. If you hit someone in rugby the same way you do in American football, it'd be so different. You wouldn't be able to play after getting hit like that with no pads. Then you say football sucks because it requires no "skill"? Football is a highly strategic sport compared to soccer. It's almost like playing an RTS game. Why?
what other country in the world likes american football? instead of canada. coz in every country (except the US) the ppl like soccer. and american football seems to be popular only in the us. geeeeeeze i had no clue the europeans would like american football. kinda surprised me a little. hahha

Why does the Bundesliga keep signing American football players and not Mexicans ? I keep hearing how Mexico is great at football and the USA, is well, not so great. So why are so many German teams signing American players and not Mexican players ? can I give a thumbs up and a thumbs down for that answer ? You don't know Steve Cherundolo ? or Benny Fielhaber ? or Heath Pearce ?Pay attention lady. but Americans don't speak German either ? I gave ya a thumbs up anyway. I agree BOTH have talented players.
Whats up with American football players and not staying out of trouble with the law? I am a big fan of American football but my first love is Football as the rest of the world knows it. Now that all the biggest headlines in the NFL are about who's in Jail I am even more discouraged by the gridiron game. All athletes make bad decisions they're just human like us, but the NFL is just full of bad eggs. Maybe they should just start a jail league and save some of these guys the hassel of being arrested every weekend.
Is it possible to play American Football wearing glasses ? Hi everybody ! Can I play American Football wearing glasses ? I have to wear them all the time, so I wonder if there's any device that you put on glasses and stuff before you put the helmet on. Any idea ? Mike: What is a visor ? Are you sure my glasses won't break ? Is it preferable to play with goggles ? Where can get them?
